Rosario Fernandez Bazan
Rosario del Pilar Fernández Bazán, representing the party Un Camino Diferente (A Different Path), is a first-time presidential candidate in Peru, one of four women and 31 men seeking the position. The first round of nationwide voting will take place on April 12, 2026. Should no candidate achieve 50% of the popular vote, the top two candidates will advance to a runoff on June 7.
Hailing from the northern coastal city of Trujillo, Peru’s third most populous city, Bazán obtained a BA in education at César Vallejo University. Since 2005, she has been a teacher at I.E.P. Jan Komensky in Trujillo. She co-founded Un Camino Diferente in 2024, the stated mission of which is “to defend the equality and liberty of citizens as mechanisms for achieving individual and collective development; to uphold the rule of law, so as to preserve the democratic system; and to combat corruption.”
Bazán’s campaign is anchored in two central policy concerns: public security and health care. In accordance with her party’s platform, she seeks to “develop urban infrastructure that prioritizes safety and quality of life,” and to “promote access to medical services in areas that are most in need.”
