Keiko Fujimoro
Keiko Fujimori (Keiko Sofía Fujimori Hoguchi), leader of the political party Fuerza Popular (People’s Force), is seeking the presidency of Peru for a fourth time, having previously run for the position in 2011, 2016, and 2021. She is one of four women and 31 men in the race. Round 1 of nationwide voting takes place on April 12, 2026. Should no candidate achieve 50% of the popular vote, the top two candidates will face each other in a runoff on June 7. In each of her previous bids for president, Fujimori advanced to the second round of voting.
Following primary and secondary education in Lima, where she was born, Fujimori pursued advanced degrees in the United States, receiving a BA in business administration from Boston University and an MBA from Columbia University in New York. She speaks Spanish and English.
Fujimori has been active in Peruvian politics since the 1990s. Her father, Alberto Fujimori, was president of the country from 1990 to 2000; Keiko served as First Lady in his administration from 1994 to 2000, in what was her first government appointment. She was subsequently elected to congress in 2006, serving as Fuerza Popular’s representative for Lima until 2011. She has led Fuerza Popular since 2010.
Fujimori’s core priorities include economic stability and public security. Per her party’s platform, the candidate seeks to advance a “free market economy” that “protects those in disadvantaged situations: workers, small businesses, the agricultural sector, communal landholders, and consumers.” With respect to public security, Fujimoro upholds the armed forces as “heroes in the fight against terrorism and guardians of peace” in Peru.
